Abstract

1285090 Turning and transferring articles on endless conveyers WEDGWOOD Ltd 19 April 1971 [24 Dec 1969] 62819/69 Heading B8A Apparatus for turning over ceramic articles between processing operations on a conveyer consisting of parallel wires 13 comprises a pickup head 24 connected by a tilt cylinder 22 and pick-up arm 21 to a shaft 19, the pick-up head 24 being moved through the conveyer wires 13 into engagement with the downward facing side of the article when the article interrupts a light beam emitted from a source 15a, a light responsive cell 15b transmitting an impulse to an actuator 18 comprising pistons (18b), Fig. 3 (not shown), whose reciprocatory movement imparts a rotational movement to the shaft 19, said movement bringingthe head 24 into engagement with the article, a vacuum connection having been established with the head 24. The head 24 and article are rotated about the shaft 19 as indicated by the positions A, B, C, the head 24 being aligned parallel to the conveyer for depositing the article thereon at position C by retraction of the tilt cylinder 22 under the action of a first cam (not shown) mounted on the shaft 19 and a second similarly mounted cam shuts off the vacuum to the head 24, thereby releasing the article on to the conveyer. The head 24 is then rotated in reverse to its former position. The apparatus may be positioned between two chambers in series in each of which there is a conveyer between which the apparatus transfers the articles, the articles being sprayed on their upward facing side in each chamber.
