Abstract

128,309. Davis, R. H. Feb. 27, 1918. Respiratory appliances. - Breathing apparatus, of the kind wherein compressed oxygen is supplied through a reducing-valve and a control valve to a flexible bag whence it passes through an inlet valve to a face mask, is fitted with a control valve the conical valve member of which terminates in a tapering extension entering the outlet passage of the valve. In the form shown, oxygen from a cylinder passes through a pipe a, reducing-valve b, and control valve to a gas-bag (not shown) attached to the nipple d. Oxygen from the bag passes through an inlet valve f to a pipe g leading to the mask. The valves j comprises a conical member m coacting with the seating l and formed with a slightly tapering extension m<1> entering the outlet passage from the valve. The valve is controlled by a hand-wheel o, which may carry a pointer q working over a scale on the valve casing. In modifications, several sets of apparatus may be supplied from a single reducing-valve, and, where the oxygen cylinder with its ordinary high-pressure valve is at a distance, an additional high-pressure valve may be placed in the pipe a on the inlet side of the reducing-valve.
