Abstract
1280574 Valves PITNEY-BOWES Ltd 6 April 1970 [16 April 1969] 16254/70 Heading F2V Control of flow between an inlet 14 and an outlet 13 is effected by means of a valve which inhibits contamination of the flow, is capable of changing its state in a time of one or two milliseconds, and which comprises a ferromagnetic plate 17 anchored in position by a cap 26, a magnetized flanged plate 21 which carries a resilient sealing member 23 and which has its flange 22 formed with an arcuate surface 24, and a permanent magnet 44 which is retained in a carrier 36 biased by a spring 42 in a direction away from the valve body 10. With the magnetic poles of plate 21 being at N 1 and S 1 and those of permanent magnet 44 at N 2 and S 2 , the valve flow path is closed when the permanent magnet is in a position most remote from the valve body 10, such position being determined by a circlip 43 on the carrier 36. Upon this permanent magnet 44 being moved towards the valve body 10, plate 21 is caused to tilt about a portion of its arcuate surface 24 to so open the flow path through the valve (Fig. 4, not shown). Plate 21 is maintained centralized relative to the outlet 13 in all operative state of the valve by means of a projection 31 which is formed on the cap 26 and which co-operates with an aperture 32 in the plate 21.
