Abstract

1278998 Brazing. SOC ANON DES USINES CHAUSSON 23 Oct 1969 [23 Oct 1968] 52076/69 Heading B3R [Also in Division F4] In a heat exchanger particularly for cooling oil and comprising a stack of stamped sheets 1 and 2 arranged to define spaced apart flow passages 4 for a fluid to be cooled extending between distribution and collection chambers 8 and (9, Fig. 1) respectively, a surrounding framework formed by interconnected end and side members 12, 13 and 14 and 15 serves to hold the constituent elements of the stack in position during brazing in a flux bath. The sheets 1 and 2, which are made of aluminium, together with flow disturbing members 11 located in the flow passages 4 and corrugated plates 5 attached to and disposed between adjacent flow passages form the stack; supply and discharge tubes 23 each formed with an elongate aperture 25 pass through and communicate with each of the chambers 8, (9). The turned over edges of the members 14, 15 have projections 28 which are received in a slot and groove arrangement 20, 19 formed in lugs 18 on the members 12 and 13. The members 14 and 15 have bent over lugs 29. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 8-11, not shown) a modified slot-projection coupling arrangement is used to interconnect the frame members.
