Abstract

1278262 Dyeing with polymer dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 April 1969 [17 April 1968] 18105/68 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions C2 and D1] Fibrous materials or polymeric films are dyed by treating with a solution or suspension of a dyestuff having at least one group of the Formula I in which R is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl (C 1-4 ) radical, R 1 and R 2 each independantly being hydrogen or halogen or an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, or ary] radical, R 3 is a hydrogen or halogen atom or an optimally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl radical or a carboxylic acid or carboxylic acid ester group, said group being directly attached to an aryl residue said treatment being carried out in conjunction with a polymerization initiator. Preferably the dye may also contain a group of Formula II in which R, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are as above, the group being directly linked to an aryl residue. The dyes may be azo, anthraquinone, or phthalocyanine dyes, the polymerization initiator may be applied with the dyestuff or afterwards or both are applied together followed by a heat treatment, e.g. steaming to form the dye. Substrates include wool, cellulose, synthetic polyamides, polyesters polyurethane, cellulose acetate, polyacrylonitrile which may be modified, silk, viscose and caprammonium rayons. Polymerization initiators include peroxides, hydroperoxides, peracids, peresters, percarbonates, azo compounds and redox systems. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,046,751.
