Abstract
127,716. Linder, S. E. June 3, 1918. Ammonium sulphate.-To produce neutral ammonium sulphate, an ammonium salt, for example ammonium sulphite or acid sulphite, which by double decomposition with free sulphuric acid will yield a volatile acid, is added to the hot solution of ammonium sulphate which has been concentrated by evaporation to the crystallizing point, prior to the removal of the crystalline ammonium sulphate from the liquor. Preferably, the bulk of the free acid in the solution is neutralized, prior to evaporation, by the passage of pure ammonia gas. The ammonium salt may be added in the solid form or in solution, or partly in the solid form and partly in solution.
