Abstract
1276866 Burner ignition and control SAUNIER DUVAL 21 Nov 1969 [22 Nov 1968] 57227/69 Heading F4T An ignition and control device for a gas water heater includes a control valve 10 controlling the gas supply to a main burner 14 and a pilot light 25, and movable between two extreme positions in which the gas supply to the burner 14 and the gas supply to the pilot 25 are respectively cut-off. Gas enters the device from a conduit 3, via a spring-biased valve 39 manually operable, by means of the lever 38, and passes through a pressure regulator 13, 46 comprising a valve 13 and gas pressure sensitive diaphragm 46. When the water is turned on a tube 42 fills with water, acting on a diaphragm 41 to open a main valve 1 against the action of a spring, and to cause an attached lever 2 to close a pair of contacts 33, 35 of springy metal in an ignition circuit. Gas flows past the main valve 1, through an orifice 47 to the pilot light 25 which is ignited by an igniter 23, and which heats a heat sensitive element 22 which is connected by a tube 21 to an expandable capsule 20, controlling a valve 19. As the capsule 20 expands, the valve 19 is opened and gas enters a chamber 15 leading to a safety pilot 24 which is ignited by the pilot 25, the chamber 15 having a diaphragm 7 which when subjected to gas pressure moves a rod 9 attached to the control valve 10 admitting gas to the main burner 14 which is lit by the pilot, and separating contacts 33, 35.
