Abstract
1275572 Filamentary bundles FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 10 Oct 1969 [30 Oct 1968] 49795/69 Heading B5B [Also in Division D1] Filament bundles (and multifilament yarns) consisting of melt spun filaments differing from one another in colour, each individual filament being uniformly dyed, are produced by separately feeding to a spinning head two or more molten polymer melts dyed in different colours, simultaneously extruding the differently dyed melts through the orifices of a spinneret in such a manner that each melt is extruded through one or more of the spinneret orifices differing from those through which the other melt is extruded, cooling and thereby solidifying the extruded differently coloured melt streams and then combining the solidified filaments to form a bundle of filaments or a multifilamentary yarn and collecting the bundle or yarn on a winding- up device. As shown in Fig. 1, two differently coloured polymer melts are introduced through separate feed pipes 4 and 5 and spinning pumps 2 and 3 into a compartmented spinning head 1 provided with a spinneret having three extrusion orifices 6, whereby one melt is extruded through the central orifice and the other differently coloured melt through the two outer orifices. The molten filaments 7 thereby formed are drawn through the spinning chimney 8 wherein they are separately cooled and solidified, and are then combined and wound on to the bobbin 9. Alternatively the differently dyed polymer melts may be separately melt extruded through different spinnerets, separately cooled and solidified and the separate and differently coloured filament bundles thereby formed combined and wound up together on a single bobbin. The polymers used may be polyamides or polyesters.
