Abstract

1275159 Blow-moulding and labelling E LANGECKER 22 May 1970 [5 June 1969] 24898/70 Addition to 1256572 Heading B5A A label or plate is attached to an article during blow-moulding thereof by holding the label or plate on the surface of a member movable in a mould wall recess with a central portion of the label or plate spaced from the surface, until an expanding portion of the article contacts it, whereupon the member moves inwardly to a position flush with the mould cavity surface. As shown in Fig. 2, a label 2 is held on the surface of a plunger 8 by suction applied through ducts 27, 11; compressed air is then introduced through central ducts 27 to form a convex area 18 on the label. Parison 13 is expanded into article (14, Fig. 3, not shown) until a portion (15) thereof contacts the bulge 18, whereupon plunger 8 is advanced to a position flush with the mould surface, included air being expelled from between the label and article through ducts 17. A chamber 20 communicating with ducts 11 is defined by terminal plate 19 and is separated from ducts 27 by an insert plate 21 which defines a chamber 22 therefor, connected to suction or to compressed air.
