[Also in Division C2] Pesticidal compositions comprise as active ingredient 2,3 - dihydrobenzofurans of the formula in which R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are hydrogen or alkyl, or R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> or R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> may together be an alkylene chain, R<SP>4</SP> is hydroxy, optionally substituted alkoxy, alkenyloxy, alkynyloxy or aryloxy, or alkylthio, the group -NR<SP>6</SP>R<SP>7</SP> (where R<SP>6</SP> and R<SP>7</SP> are optionally substituted alkyl or together complete a heterocyclic ring), -O.COR<SP>13</SP>, -O.SO 2 R<SP>14</SP> or -O-O-R<SP>15</SP> where R<SP>13</SP> is alkyl, alkenyl, alkymyl, aryl or dialkylamino or optionally substituted alkylamino, alkoxy, arylamino, aryloxyl, alkenyloxy or alkynyloxy, R<SP>14</SP> is optionally substituted alkyl or aryl and R<SP>15</SP> is alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl), or R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> together represent an oxygen atom or =NR<SP>16</SP> (where R<SP>16</SP> is alkyl or cycloalkyl), R<SP>5</SP> is R<SP>8</SP>CO-, R<SP>9</SP>SO 2 or R<SP>9</SP>SO- (where R<SP>8</SP> is haloalkyl and R<SP>9</SP> is optionally substituted alkyl or aryl), and R<SP>10</SP>, R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>12</SP> are hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, cyano, acyl or alkoxy. The compositions have herbicidal; fungicidal, insecticidal and anthelmintic properties and are used in the conventional forms. When used as pre- or post-emergence herbicides the compositions may include other herbicides, e.g. phenoxyaliphatic acids, substituted ureas, triazine derivatives, phenols, nitriles, bipyridyliums, substituted benzoic acids, halogenated aliphatic acids, carbamates, thiocarbamates, chloracetamides, diazines, arsenic compounds and others, each of which is exemplified. As fungicides and pesticides, the compositions can be used to protect plants and materials such as textiles. Examples 20-24 relate to the formulation and application of the active compounds.
