Abstract

1,270,260. Multiple-glazed windows; pivoting sashes. PREFLOR Ltd. 10 Dec., 1969 [12 Sept., 1968], No. 43483/68. Headings E1J and E1R. A window comprises at least three lighttransmitting panels mounted in a frame in parallel planes defining spaces therebetween, alternate panels having gaps at the top or bottom to interconnect the spaces and provide an air passage from one side of the window to the other, and a control member, e.g. a manually operable louvre, to regulate the air flow through this passage. The frame preferably comprises two sashes 2, 3 pivoted to a main frame 1; one panel 8 is mounted in the outer sash 2 and two panels 22, 23 are mounted in the inner sash 3. The inner surfaces of the sashes have sound absorbent material 11, 30 secured thereto. The panels 8, 23 are spaced from the bottoms of their sashes, and the panel 22 is spaced from the top of its sash. The gap at the bottom of the panel 8 contains the louvre 13 in a frame 14 pivotally mounted, with spring-loading, in the sash 2. In use, the two sashes are generally closed, and air passes in through the louvre and up and down the inter-panel spaces. The louvre 13 may instead be mounted in the gap below the panel 23.
