Abstract
1,269,639. Sodium ammonium polyvanadate; ammonium metavanadate. MUREX Ltd. 28 May, 1969 [12 July, 1968], No. 33498/68. Heading C1A. Sodium ammonium polyvanadate is prepared by a continuous process by adding a soluble ammonium salt to a sodium vanadate solution while maintaining the temperature below 50‹ C. and the pH in the range 4-5. The initial Na vanadate solution may be treated with H 2 SO 4 to precipitate SiO 2 which may be removed in a filter press, and the pH further adjusted to 3À5-5À5 by addition of H 2 SO 4 . The ammonium salt is preferably NH 4 Cl and the pH may be maintained at 4-5 by addition of NH 4 OH. The product may be filtered, dried at below 60‹ C., and washed with dilute NB 4 Cl solution. The formula of the product may be where x is 8-13. The polyvanadate may be slurried and treated with an ammoniacal solution of NH 4 Cl to form ammonium metavanadate.
