Abstract

1,269,055. Seals. ROOTES MOTORS Ltd. 25 June, 1969 [28 June, 1968], No. 31071/68. Heading F2B. An hydraulic damper comprises a seal fixed within the cylinder 11, 12 and having an inner portion 25 which sealably-engages the pistonrod 10, the arrangement being such that the inner portion of the seal moves axially with the piston-rod but is limited in its axial movement with respect to the cylinder. The seal is clamped at its outer periphery 24 by members 19, 20 and the inner portion 25 is free to move axially in the cavity formed by the members 19, 20. If desired the seal may be assisted by springs of Belleville, star or wavy form or the seal may be provided on its end faces with resilient members which may be reinforced by spring metal members in either engagement with them or moulded therein. In another embodiment, the inner portion of the seal is bonded to a channelshaped carrier.
