Abstract
1,268,613. Crystal controlled multivibrators. TIMEX CORP. 15 Jan., 1970 [30 Jan., 1969], No. 2116/70 Heading H3T. [Also in Division G3] A time piece comprises an integrated circuit quartz crystal stabilized multivibrator feeding a drive circuit via a frequency divider circuit. The power source is a battery 10 or alternatively solar cells. In operation transistor 31 conducts and turns ON a transistor 30. As the collector of T30 goes to ground, C39 attempts to drive the base of T31 more negative thus increasing regeneration. When C39 completes charging, the base of T31 goes slightly more positive causing a regenerative action which cuts off T30 and T31. The base of T31 now goes to ground at a rate determined by R34, C39 and R36 until eventually T31 conducts again and the cycle repeats. The resulting short spikes at the collector of T30 cause a crystal 40 to emit a decaying train of oscillations across R33 which cause the multivibrator to synchronize at the fundamental (e.g. 60 KHz) or sub-harmonic of the crystal frequency depending upon the values of R34 and C39. Alternatively the crystal may be across R36. Either C43 or R44 may be adjustable to adjust the output frequency.
