Abstract

[Also in Division B3] A comminuting system for swarf (containing sawn-off bar ends) comprises a vibratory feeder with a grid 3, Fig. 1. Fines fall through and bushy and curly swarf passes over a slot fed with an air blast. Bar ends, previously mixed with the swarf, are separated and the lighter material is then fed via a primary shredder device 4 to a secondary shredder 6, and thence to a further stepped-slot air-blast separator. All the bar ends are thus extracted. The shredded swarf is crushed at 8 and the crushed material is fed to a centrifuge 15 for extraction of oil, and stored in a hopper 17. The shredders are as described in Specification 1,266,692 and the bar separator is described in Specification 1,266,693.
