Abstract
1,266,408. Oil- and water-proofing of materials. J. R. GEIGY A.G. 9 April, 1969 [10 April, 1968], No. 18129/69. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C2, C3 and D1] Textile materials, paper, leather, wood, masonry, metals, plastics, glass, painted wooden and metallic surfaces, are rendered both water- and oil-repellent by treatment with homopolymers or copolymers having a skeletal chain containing repeating units of the formula: where A is a hexafluoroisopropyl radical or the group C m F 2m+1 -C n H 2n - wherein m is from 3 to 18, n is from 1 to 10, X is O or S, R 1 is a saturated hydrocarbon radical obtained by polymerising an ethylenically unsaturated radical derived from fumaric, maleic, citraconic, mesaconic, itaconic, aconitic or methylene malonic acid, and s is 2 or 3, the polymer being applied from solvent solution or aqueous emulsions. The above polymers may be blended with other polymers such as polyalkyl acrylates and methacrylates. The polymers may be applied by dipping, spraying, brushing, padding, or roll coating.
