Abstract
1,266,393. Piston rings. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. 20 Oct., 1969 [24 Oct., 1968], No. 51430/69. Heading F2T. An oil scraper ring 1 for the piston of an I.C. engine is provided with at least one bimetallic element 2, Fig. 1, for expanding the ring with decreasing piston temperature during operation of the engine. The arrangement prevents excessive oil consumption under no-load conditions. In Fig. 3, the bi-metallic element 5 is fitted across the ends of the ring 1. In another embodiment the bi-metallic element joins the ends of a helical expansion spring and in a further embodiment, the bi-metallic element is in the form of a single or a series of leaf springs.
