[Also in Divisions G2 and G3] In a gaming machine, a randomly selected one of a number of film sequences disposed side by side across the width of a cinematograph film is projected on to a screen. As shown, projector 12 shows an endless film which is stored on drum loop absorber 17 and is divided into a number of sections each of which is of a different flat race. Each frame of the film is divided (Fig. 7) into four subframes 18, 19, 20, 21, each race is divided into two separate sequences, and each of the subframes 18-21 bears images of one of four possible sequences of the race. A particular winning horse is allotted to each sub-frame so that when a horse wins it means that the corresponding sub-frame is projected in the final sequence. During screening of a race, a beam from projector 12 is directed along path 23 to impinge on screen 29 by means of mirrors 24, 25, 26, 27. The first mirrors 24, 25 are tiltable, in response to motor-driven random selection means, so as to project only a selected one of sub-frames 18-21. In operation, a coin is placed in one or more coin rejectors 33 according to which of the horses is fancied to win, start button 37 is depressed, a first randomlyselected sequence is projected, a second randomly-selected sequence is projected, this showing the end of the race, and any winnings collected from automatically fed payout cup 36. In modifications, videotape is employed instead of film; and sub-frame selection is made by alteration of the phase of the flashes from a stroke light, or by moving a tilting, revolving or sub-divided projector lens, or by bringing all the sub-frames to coincide on the screen and masking all but one of them by a moving shutter in or close to the projector gate.
