Abstract

1,264,016. Shaft couplings. INGERSOLLRAND CO. 13 Oct., 1969, No. 50143/69. Heading F2U. The shank 14 of a rock drilling cutting element 10 has ciroumferentially spaced ribs 16 each shaped (e.g. as at 19) to receive a pin 40 (e.g. of nylon) extending parallel to the rotational axis to transmit torque in at least one direction to the shank by compression only. Reverse torque may be transmitted by inclined backs 18 and 30 of the ribs 16 and similar ribs 28 of a chuck 25 of a drilling machine. The element 10 may be axially slidable in the chuck and be subjected to blows from a hammer 4 while rotating.
