Abstract

1,263,620. Reinforced foamed articles. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. 28 May, 1969 [28 June, 1968], No. 26877/69. Heading B5A. Skin-covered foamed articles, e.g. cushions, crash-pads &c. for automobiles, having a reinforcing member therein are made by releasably adhering the reinforcing member to a lid over a mould cavity and causing a foamable material to foam in the mould and adhere to the skin and to the reinforcing member, the skin being preformed or formed in situ on expansion of the material by cooling the mould and the reinforcing member being formed by applying sufficient fluid plastics material to the lid. The material forming the reinforcing member is preferably foamable, may contain asbestos fibres, may be rigid or semi-rigid and is preferably foamed on the lid within a removable frame. The reinforcing member preferably also includes means to attach the article to a complete assembly, e.g. an automobile.
