1,263,171. Converting rotary motion into reciprocating motion. SHIZUOKA DAIGAKU CHO. 17 Jan., 1969 [30 Jan., 1968 (2)], No. 2738/69. Heading F2Q. [Also in Division F1] A reciprocating piston machine such as an I.C. engine, compressor or pump having at least one pair of opposed cylinders each accommodating a piston, or an I.C. engine having at least one cylinder divided by a piston into two combustion chambers one on each side of the piston, comprises a crank-shaft journalled in at least one eccentric collar rotatably supported by the casing of the machine and having an eccentricity equal to that of the crank-pin, the eccentric collar being arranged to rotate at the same angular velocity as the crank-shaft but in the opposite direction so as to provide linear motion of the connecting-rod means along the axis of the cylinder or cylinders, and balance weights being secured to the crank-shaft and the eccentric collar as described in Specification 1,261,546. The eccentric collar is connected to the crankshaft by an eccentric-gear or hypocycloidal mechanism as described in Specification 1,261,546.
