[Also in Divisions C7, E1 and H2] In apparatus for recovering minerals from an underwater ore bed (see Division E1), comprising a box providing a chamber having an open bottom face and supplied with solvents and or reagents to dissolve or react with material in the ore bed, the box is adapted to be pulled along the ocean floor and has a wide mesh screen 73 which passes ore via a hinged apron 74 to the chamber in which are disposed a pair of differentially driven crushing-grinding belts 77, 78 fed by a scraper 76 and delivering to a suction pump 85 and a cyclone 86 for transmission of the material to an electrolysing system at the surface.
