Abstract

126,188. Midgley, A. H., and Vandervell &. Co., C. A. May 30, 1918. Exciting.-In a self-regulating continuous-current dynamo, a short-circuited current is produced in the armature conductors lying in the fringe of the main poles for the purpose of producing a demagnetizing field acting in opposition to the main field. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, two wide brushes or two pairs of brushes a, a and a<1>, a<1> connected together are arranged to short circuit the armature conductors c, c<1>. In a modification, pairs of brushes or wide brushes, independent of the main brushes, are placed under the pole fringes.
