Abstract
1,261,870. Corrugating tubes. KABELUND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE A.G. 18 March, 1970 [29 March, 1969], No. 13026/70. Heading B3E. An apparatus for the continuous corrugation of thin-walled tubes comprises a rotatable corrugator head 4 through which the tube passes, an inclined freely rotatable corrugation-forming rolling ring 2 mounted within the head eccentrically with respect to the tube and provided with a helical internal screw thread in its central bore. The axis of inclination of the ring intersects the tube axis at right angles and bisects the pitch of the said screw-thread. The rolling ring is mounted in a self-aligning roller bearing 17, 18 in the head 4 (Fig. 4). A sensing device (not shown) indicates any axial play of the head so that its speed of rotation by a motor 11 through gearing 7, 8 and an infinitely variable transmission 10 (Fig. 3) can be regulated should harder tube material be encountered and also to indicate whether the ring is under compressive or tensile stress in the direction of movement of the tube. The ring is usually subjected to slight tension.
