Abstract

1,259,114. Pliers. ARNOLDS VETERINARY PRODUCTS Ltd. 11 April, 1969 [16 April, 1968], No. 17962/68. Heading B4W. [Also in Division A5] A gripping or cutting tool 1 comprises two arms 2, 7 pivoted together for relative movement to cause operating heads 4, 9 to approach or recede from each other, and means pivotally connected to both arms for causing such relative movement upon operation thereof, the means comprising an operating arm 10 which moves in the same sense as the arm 7 during approach of the operating heads 4, 9. The means further comprises a connecting rod 13 of variable length pivoted to both arms and passing through a slot 5 in the arm 2. A tension spring 16 biases the arms into their open position. The operating heads, which may be detachable, may be jaws formed to provide a pincer or crimping action, or may have cutting edges (as shown). The arrangement may be such that the ratio of angular movement of the handle portion 11 of operating arm 10 to angular movement of the arm 7 increases as the handle portion 11 is drawn nearer handle portion 6 of arm 2.
