Abstract

1,257,184. Electrochemical fluorination. PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO. 22 Oct., 1968, No. 50124/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C7] An organic compound is electrochemically fluorinated substantially entirely within the pores of a porous anode. Electric current is passed from the anode through a liquid HF- containing electrolyte and the organic compound is fed into the pores of the porous anode so as to contact the electrolyte. The organic compound may be completely or only partially fluorinated. Products specified are fluoromethanes, fluorochloromethanes, fluoroethanes, fluorochloroethanes, vinyl fluoride, fluoromethyl - propanes, fluoro - cyclopropanes, benzyl fluoride, benzylidene fluoride, benzylidyne fluoride, fluoro-toluenes, fluoro-dialkyl ethers, alkyl and fluoroalkyl fluoroacetates, fluoroethyl mercaptans, fluoropropanols and trifluoroacetonitrile.
