Abstract

1,256,764. Aryloxyalkyl guanidines. COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO. 23 July, 1969 [27 Aug., 1968], No. 37085/69. Heading C2C. The invention comprises compounds of the Formula I in which X. represents 4- or 5-ohloro, 4- or 5- fluoro or 4- or 5-trifluoromethyl and acid addition salts thereof. They are prepared by reacting the appropriate ethylamine with 1-amidino-3,4- dimethyl pyrazole (nitrate), cyanamide or 5- methyl-thiopseudourea. They are isolated as the nitrate. 1 - Methyl - 2 - [2 - methoxy - (4- or 5 - halo) phenoxy] ethylamine where halo is chloro or fluoro is prepared by hydrogenating the appropriate oxime in the presence of Raney nickel. 1 - Methyl - 2 - [2 - methoxy - (4- or 5-halo) phenoxy] - 2 - propanone oxime is prepared from the appropriate ketone and hydroxylamine hydrochloride. Pharmaceutical compositions containing as active ingredient a compound of Formula I together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier are administered orally or parenterally and have antihypertensive activity and depress the central nervous system. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 993,581.
