Abstract

1,253,618. Semi-formals. PERSTOR AB. 24 March, 1969 [28 March, 1968], No. 15242/69. Heading C2C. Substantially dry semi-formals are prepared by mixing an alcohol or a partial semi-formal of an alcohol which still contains some of the original hydroxy groups with excess formalin, and the water and the excess formaldehyde are driven off from the mixture under vacuum within a period of 5 minutes in a rapid evaporator plant. Polyhydric alcohols or partial semiformals thereof are generally used. Pentaerythritol is used in the example but various others are specified including triethanolamine.
