Abstract
1,252,598. Resistance networks. VISHAY INTERTECHNOLOGY Inc. 13 Dec., 1968 [1 July, 1968], No. 59555/68. Heading H3U. [Also in Division H1] A resistance box comprises a plurality of units each consisting of a group of resistors, selected resistors of a group being electrically connectible in series with one or more of the resistors of the other units and a rotatable switch member for each unit for selecting the resistors, the number of resistors in each unit being less than the number of resistance values in each unit, and the total resistance value being directly readable from indicating means on the switches. Preferably each resistor comprises a metal film having elastic properties which obey Hooke's law in tension and compression, attached to a rigid dielectric substrate located within a hermetically sealed housing. As shown, five ten-position switches provide readings at 1 ohm intervals up to 99,999 ohms. Each unit may contain four resistors, e.g. combinations of a 1 ohm, 2 ohm and two 3 ohm resistors provide all the values from 1 to 9 ohms. For providing values between 0 and 1 ohm a slide wire rheostat is connected in series (Fig. 2, not shown) consisting of two parallel wires mounted on a drum and interconnected at one end. Movement of a vernier dial varies the length of the wires in relation to a pair of pressure contacts.
