Abstract

125,210. Gray, F. W., (Gray, J. A.). April 9, 1918. Inhalers.-Apparatus for administering nitrous oxide, combined with a mixing valve for control by the supply of nitrous oxide, oxygen, and air, is provided with gasometers, between the gas cylinders and the mixing-valve, together with mechanical means for automatically controlling the supply of gas to the gasometers. The whole device is mounted in a wheeled structure 2 and the gas cylinders are connected by pipes 5 to the gasometers. Linkwork is provided between the gasometer bells 6, 7, and taps 8, 9 in the supply pipes whereby the supply of gas is controlled by the position of the bells, lost-motion devices being introduced to prevent premature operation of the taps. Pipes 10, 11 communicate with the mixing-valve which consists of an outer casing 12 and a revoluble inner casing 13 carried by a perforated delivery pipe 14 provided with a handle 18. Three ports 20, 21, 22 are provided and operate in connexion with pipes 15, 17, 16, Fig. 3, for air, oxygen, and nitrous oxide respectively, the valves 21, 22 being elongated to allow a gradual increase of gas. Non- return valves 24, 25 are provided in the outlet pipe 14. In operation, the air inlet pipe 15 is first opened, the valve is then gradually moved to admit nitrous oxide and shut off the air, and then to supply nitrous oxide alone or mixed with oxygen.
