1,251,984. Handling sheets of glass. LIBBY-OWENS-FORD CO. 16 Aug., 1968 [30 Aug., 1967], No. 57567/70. Divided out of 1,251,981. Heading C1M. A loading and unloading unit for moving sheets of glass to and from a conveyer unit comprises a floor supported framework 3000, a substantially rectangular tilting frame 3050 pivotally mounted at 3065 on member 3009 of framework 3000, means for moving the frame 3050 between an inclined position and a substantially vertical position, conveyer means 3014 associated with frame 3050 for supporting the sheet S at its lower edge, vacuum means 3245 carried by the tilting frame for gripping the sheet S, a sheet suspending carrier 160 mounted above the frame 3050 with sheet clamping means 1614, 1615 carried thereby, elevator means 3100 for raising or lowering the sheet S between the conveyer means 3014 and the sheet carrier 160, clamping of the sheet when raised by clamping means 1614, 1615 being controlled by movement of the frame 3050 to vertical position and release of the sheet from the clamping means 1614, 1615 being controlled by the operation of the vacuum means before lowering the sheet to the conveyor means 3014. Preferably the apparatus is duplicated so that the tilting frames form an " A " and pairs of sheets are handled together. The apparatus forms part of a glass filming apparatus disclosed and claimed in Specifications 1,251,981, 1,251,982 and 1,251,983.
