Abstract
1,250,655. Burner controls. HONEYWELL Inc. 14 Nov., 1968 [22 Nov., 1967], No. 54143/68. Heading F4T. In a burner control apparatus for controlling the ignition sequence and the main supply of fuel to a burner including a prepurge timer 18, the timing means includes an unijunction transistor 44 or two or more transistors having the same input/output characteristics, a capacitor 48 connected to apply a voltage to the input of the unijunction transistor and normally receive a charge during the purge period through an impedance and current responsive means in the form of a relay IR controlling contacts which establish the trial period by being closed, connected in the output of the unijunction transistor, the capacitor 48 being also connected in the output of a transistor 42 the input of which receives a signal from a flame detector circuit 20 which causes the transistor to shortcircuit the capacitor 48 through a diode 54 and which is indicative of a flame at the burner. In operation a switch 17 is closed to energize a transformer 29 and a rectifier 32 charges capacitor 33 and energizes a relay 3R via a lockout switch heater 23 and relay IR to complete a holding circuit and energize air flow motor 11, the air flow switch 16 responding to air flow to energize the timer 18 so that charging of capacitor 48 begins and after a time delay transistor 44 becomes conductive and the capacitor 48 discharges through the coil 19 of relay IR to complete a maintaining circuit and energize heater 23. Closing of contacts IR4 energizes pilot valve 12 and igniter 13 to institute a trialfor-pilot-flame period, a lock-out switch 22 being operated by heater 23 if the pilot flame is not established. Establishment of flame causes transistors 41, 42, 43 to become conductive, flame relay 2R causing the heater 23 to be deenergized and the circuit to capacitor 48 and transistor 44 to be opened. Flame failure during operation causes transistor 40 to be rendered conductive to render transistors 41, 42, 43 non- conductive and de-energize relays 1R, 2R to shut down the burner.
