Abstract
1,250,369. Cooling blast furnace linings. MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO K.K. 22 Oct., 1969 [22 Oct., 1968], No. 51854/69. Heading F4B. A cooling assembly for a blast furnace comprises vertical and horizontal pipe loop sections 2, 3 respectively through which water or steam is circulated. The pipe loops are embedded in silicon carbide refractory 5, to which an inner fire clay brick layer 6 may be secured. During operation the latter wears away to be replaced by a blast furnace slag layer 7 formed in situ. Normally coolant only flows through pipe loops 2, but if leakage into the lining should occur, it is detected by temperature sensing units 4, and the reserve pipe loops 3 for that section of the furnace are used instead. Coolant may also be circulated through both sets of pipe loops 2, 3 under the control of the temperature sensing units 4, to increase the build up of the slag layer 7. An insulating refractory layer (not shown) may be provided between the shell 1 and the silicon carbide refractory 5.
