Abstract

1,247,878. Linear induction motor reaction rail. TRACKED HOVERCRAFT Ltd. 26 Sept. 1968, No. 45726/68. Heading B7L. A linear induction motor reaction rail comprises lengths of inverted T-section 14 and 15 for use with a double-sided linear motor stator of a tracked hovercraft having inclined ends 16 and 17, Fig. 2, connectable by means of a tongue-and-groove arrangement to provide an expansion joint capable of transmitting lateral bending forces. In Fig. 3, the tongue and grooved edges 22 and 23 are parallel to the longitudinal direction of the rail. In Fig. 4 the grooves are formed in the parallel edges 32, 33 of a projection 34 of rail 30, with the tongues formed on edges 35, 36 of a recess 37 in rail 31. Fig. 5 shows rails 40, 41 formed with triangular recesses 42, 43 whose edges are grooved and receive the peripheral tongue of a connecting piece 47. In Fig. 7, rail 50 is formed with a grooved projecting portion 52 which is received in a tongued recess of rail 51. Both the projection and recess are formed with parallel horizontal portions 58 and 59 respectively. A fish plate 61 is either clamped or bolted across the ends of the rails, longitudinal movement being limited by lug 67.
