Abstract

1,247,299. Discharge tubes. ISE ELECTRONICS CORP. 24 Oct., 1969 [19 Nov., 1968], No. 52171/69. Heading H1D. A display tube contains an internal display electrode structure 7 connected to terminals 6 extending through the envelope which comprises a metal cap 1 provided with a transparent window 2 and a flange 4 seated to a metal base 5, the terminals 6 being sealed in apertures in the base 5 by insulating material 9, e.g. glass or ceramic. The base 5 is provided with an exhaust opening in which a glass or metal pipe may be sealed (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). The cap 1 may be sealed to the base 5 by arc or spot-welding or by soldering. The display may be fluorescent, in which case the metal envelope is grounded to act as an electrostatic shield. The envelope is either evacuated or filled with an inert gas. The electrode structure 7 may be as described in Specification 1,245,309.
