Abstract
1,246,851. Chromizing ferrous surfaces. ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd. Feb. 10, 1969 [Feb. 9, 1968; May 20, 1968], Nos. 6646/68 and 24029/68. Heading C7F. A ferrous substrate is chromized by forming an adherent porous layer of chromium which also contains an element which reacts readily with oxygen, e.g. Al, Si, P, V, Ti, Ta, Mo, and Nb, and then heating in the presence of an anhydrous halide which may be fluorides of Al, Mn, Ni, and Co, chlorides of Mn, Ni, and Co, ammonium chloride, and the chlorides, fluorides, bromides and iodides of Na, and K. The chromium may be applied in powdered form and then rolled. The halide may be applied as a solution or a powder.
