Abstract

1,246,439. Stopper rod actuators. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT AUTOMATIZATSIICHERNOI METALLURGII. 1 July, 1970, No. 31816/70. Heading F4B. A reversible rotary compressed air motor 3 is used to lift and lower a ladle stopper rod 1 through reduction gearing 4, screw-and-nut gearing 5, 6 and members 7, 8. Due to the screw-and-nut gearing, positive rotation of motor 3 is necessary to both lift and lower the rod, so that the rod may be held in any intermediate position simply by stopping the air supply to the motor 3. The motor may be automatically or remotely controlled.
