Abstract

1,246,345. Automatic circuit breakers. BAR ELEKTROWERKE G.m.b.H. 24 April, 1969 [25 April, 1968; 13 Nov., 1968], No. 20972/69. Heading H1N. An automatic circuit-breaker has two pairs of contacts 72, 73; 74, 73<SP>1</SP> arranged in adjacent compartments of a housing 13, a manual operator 6 being provided to move both pairs of contacts to the closed position and a current-responsive thermal element 31 to move one pair of contacts 72, 73 to the open position. The other pair of contacts can be opened by the manual operator 6 through an overcentre spring 77; movement of the rocker 6 to open the second pair of contacts 74, 73<SP>1</SP> causes an abutment 65 to move the first pair 72, 73 to the closed position where they are held by an overcentre spring 71 until opened by the bimetal 31. A lamp 53 is connected to contact strips 54, 54<SP>1</SP> which co-operate with the movable contact carrying members 64, 70 so as to light the lamp if contacts 72, 73 open, indicating an overload. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 1-3, not shown) the bimetal carries one contact which latches a pivotally mounted co-operating contact. The rocker 6 then has a depending lug (9) which co-operates with the contact to restore latching after automatic release. In a further arrangement each of a plurality of interlocked push-buttons 39 operates a set of contacts as in Fig. 1, the push-buttons being arranged to re-engage the circuit breaking contacts when released and to close the other contacts when depressed.
