Abstract

1,245,669. Prosthesis manipulating instrument. A. H. HUGGLER and B. G. WEBER 24 April, 1969 [25 April, 1968], No. 21062/69. Heading A5R. An instrument for use with a prosthetic femoral head comprises a stem 1 a striker member 5 slidable on the stem to strike an abutment surface 4 or 10 fixed to the stem, a hook 2 fixed to one end of the stem and having a free end 7 for engagement in a bore 11 on the prosthesis, the free end being circular cylindrical in form with its axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the stem, a handle 12 fixed to the stem at a point spaced from the hook and extending radially of the longitudinal axis of the stem and perpendicularly to the free end of the hook. In use the free end 7 of the hook is engaged in a closely fitting bore 11 on a femoral prosthesis to enable the prosthesis to be moved by the instrument during insertion and withdrawal of the prosthesis. The striker is used to apply impacts to the instrument to drive the prosthesis in or loosen it for withdrawal.
