Abstract

1,139,451. Rotary pumps and motors. R. DARDEL. Jan. 27, 1966 [Feb. 4, 1965] No. 3692/66. Heading F1F. A rotary hydraulic pump (or motor) of the axially-sliding abutment type, comprises a rotor 2, Fig. 1 splined to a shaft 3 for rotation in a body 1 and formed at its ends with face cams 51, 52 which with the adjacent plane end faces of plates 6, 7 secured to the body define working chambers which on rotation of the rotor are swept by axially-sliding abutments 53, 54 diametrically disposed in axial slots in the plates 6, 7 and urged by annular springs 56 into abutment with the face cams. The springs 56 which are pre-stressed are formed with diametral notches 56a engaged by studs 83 which permit the springs to rock about a diameter and so prevent any stress variation in them. The face cams 51, 52 are each formed with three plane crests c, Fig. 9 spaced 120 degrees apart in sliding engagement with the end faces of the plates 6, 7 and three plane hollows d midway therebetween connected to the crests by helical arcs a, b with the crests on the one cam face in axial alignment with the hollows on the other cam face to form six working chambers, three at either end of the rotor so that on each revolution of the rotor there are twelve discharges of hydraulic fluid when operating as a pump. The arrangement being such that when flow from one chamber is decreasing the flow from another chamber is increasing to give a continuous and substantially constant non-pulsating discharge. An inlet port (34), Fig. 3 (not shown) opens into an arcuate conduit (36) connected at opposite ends to axial ducts (37) whose opposite ends in turn are connected to ports (38), Fig. 12 (not shown), opening into the working chambers at locations just aft of the abutments 53, 54 in the direction of rotation of the rotor. Similarly ports (48) at location just forward of the abutments 53, 54 are connected by ducts (47), arcuate conduit (46) to an outlet port (44). This arrangement of ports and passages and working chambers gives hydraulic balance of the rotor both axially and radially. Grooves 71 in the abutments permit liquid flow therealong to assist the springs 56. Leakage flow on the outer periphery of the rotor and between it and its shaft is automatically conducted through circumferential grooves 61 and 67 Fig. 9, respectively to the suction chambers.
