Abstract

113,436. Pieters, J. Feb. 16, 1917, [Convention date]. Discharging.-Tn an apparatus for removing coke from vertical retorts, movable devices are provided for taking the weight of the charge in the retort during the operation of the discharging device. In the construction shown, the device consists of members c mounted on rock shafts b so that they can be moved into or out of the path of the descending coke. The discharge is effected by a screw conveyer h working in a trough beneath a number of retorts in line. The shafts b of each retort are geared together and are operated by pinions and toothed quadrants. The final discharge of the coke is effected through a rotary valve, which prevents entrance of air through the discharge shoot.
