Abstract

1,122,846. Two-part couplings. PLESSEYUK Ltd. 11 Nov., 1965 [30 Nov., 1964], No. 48502/64. Heading H2E. The contacts of a multi-contact connector are held in position in a support by having an enlarged portion 3 of each contact trapped between two sections 7 and 8 of the support, and a coating 10 is provided on each contact to prevent the possibility of electrical leakage occurring across the gap between the two sections of the support. The support may be of either electrically insulating or conducting material. If the support is insulating the coating need only extend around the enlargements 3, but otherwise it must completely surround the part of the contact embedded in the support. The enlarged diameter part 2 of each pin contact is set back from the end of the support section to increase the electrical creepage path around the end of the support. The socket contacts are each recessed at both ends within their support.
