Abstract

1,119,880. Heat-treating tobacco. HAUNI-WERKE KÍRBER & CO. K.G. 26 Oct., 1966 [17 Nov., 1965], No. 47966/66. Heading A2C. [Also in Division F4] During a drying process the nitrogen compound content of Burley tobacco is reduced by heat-treating the tobacco with air having a temperature of about 100‹C. and a moisture content such that the heated tobacco and the hot air are in hygroscopic equilibrium. The tobacco T is carried .successively on a perforated conveyer belt 14 through -three drying chambers, .a heating chamber, .and a cooling chamber. Air within the heating .chamber is circulated .by fan 58 up through the tobacco T and down over a heater 64. Moistening of the air is effected by a device 76, fresh air is admitted at .66, and controlled .exhaustion of air is effected through valve 68. A thermometer 72 and an hygrometer 74 are also provided. In the drying chambers the moistening davies 76 is omitted, and in the cooling chamber the device 76 is replaced by an extraction fan and the heater 64 is omitted.
