[Also in Divisions B5 and F2] A tubular textile drafting apron 11 having an inner layer 13 of natural or synthetic rubber, an outer exposed layer 12 of a polyurethane elastomer and an intermediate layer 14 of helically wound textile cords, said outer layer being free of seams, joints and fillers and having a tensile strength between about 4500 and 6000 psi and an abrasion resistance of no greater than 0.0175 gm. per 1000 revolutions when tested with a Taber H-22 wheel is made by placing a tubular rubber member 15 on a mandrel, helically winding a cotton, rayon, nylon or polyester textile cord 18 from a spool 19 on lead screw 20 which is driven simultaneously with the mandrel to feed the spool to the right over the rotating member, applying adhesive e.g. a rubber cement to the member, applying a tubular member 23 of the polyurethane, wrapping the assembly several with a tics material (e.g. of polyvinyl or polyethylene) several times and applying a helically wound tape e.g. a fabric strip to the assembly which is removed from the mandrel and cured under elevated temperature with subsequential removal of the tape and plastics material.
