Abstract

<PICT:1112160/C6-C7/1> Heated closed wire coils are cooled by spraying a coolant uniformly against the rings of the coils 2 from an axially arranged double-walled tube 1 fitted with atomizing nozzles 3 and conducting both the coolant 5 and compressed air 4, so that the droplets produced are small enough to remain fluidized around the rings of the coils and large enough to reach the outermost turns 7. The coolant may be water, oil or emulsion thereof. In addition, the coils may be cooled from without by an annular double wall or a shell 14, fitted with nozzles, revolving together with the tube 1, Fig. 5, or alone. The density of the nozzles 3 on the tube 1 may vary according to the temperature of the coils 2, or the nozzles may be spaced regularly but providing a varying amount of coolant. Alternatively slit-type nozzles may be fitted, Fig.8 (not shown).
