Abstract
The hydrolysable chlorine content of an undistilled organic diisocyanate, obtained by phosgenation of a diamine, is reduced by contacting the diisocyanate with calcium hydroxide under conditions no more strenuous than those of heating at 140 DEG C. for 5 1/2 hours and then removing the solid inorganic matter from the diisocyanate. The treatment with the calcium hydroxide, which is generally employed in a stoichiometric excess, may be effected in an inert diluent. A specified diisocyanate is tolylene diisocyanate.
