Abstract

1,111,392. Moulding tyres. KENTREDDER Ltd. 2 Jan., 1967 [3 Jan., 1966], No. 73/66. Heading B5A. A tyre retreading mould comprises a unitary outer annular component 2 with heating elements 7 and a machined inner surface 3 which tightly embraces the outer surface of an annular tread forming liner 1 when the parts 1 and 2 are at the same temperature, said parts being shaped so as to permit the insertion of the liner from one side only of the part 2 and to limit the extent of the insertion. As shown the mating surfaces are frusto-conical; alternatively they are cylindrical and one of the parts has a flange to limit the insertion of the one into the other. In the latter case the parts are heat treated to minimize growth of the components after prolonged use. The heating means, which may be electrical or steam, enable the component 2 to be heat shrunk on to the liner and enable the latter to be removed and replaced, and may be loosely located in grooves in the inner or outer surfaces of the said component. Each rod-like heating element may be located in two parallel grooves, with half its length in each.
