Abstract

<PICT:1110911/C6-C7/1> <PICT:1110911/C6-C7/2> Metal articles are cleaned by being introduced at 32 and, after falling to the bottom 34 of vibrating conveyer 30 which is suspended and oscillated about a vertical axis at 24, the articles climb the spiral chute of the conveyer and are discharged down chute 62, the cleansing liquid being introduced at 64 so that the vapour thereof affects the cleaning of the article. Additional treatment may be given to the articles at the portion (Fig. 4) of the spiral which is bent outwards, the treatment being effected by sprays 76, the track of the spiral having apertures formed therein to drain away the material. A further treatment may be given at a further portion of the track which again is bent outwards and again provided with apertures to allow treating material to drain away. Additionally the track may be subdivided as shown to allow for two or more streams of materials to be elevated side by side.
