Abstract

Novel compounds of the Formula I <FORM:1110469/C2/1> where R is hydrogen, or a straight- or branched-chain alkyl group containing from 1-5 carbons are prepared by the condensation of 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde, or a derivative yielding 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde under the conditions of the reaction, with an amino mercapto triazole of Formula II <FORM:1110469/C2/2> or a salt thereof. By desulphurization of I with a desulphurizing agent such as selenium dioxide or mercuric oxide the corresponding 5-nitro-2-furfurylidene-amino-triazolone III is produced <FORM:1110469/C2/3> III can also be produced by reacting I with an organic reagent capable of reacting with the mercapto group to eliminate a moiety containing the sulphur atom of the mercapto group, e.g. an alkylating agent; or a hydroxamoyl halide in the presence of a hydroxylic solvent and a tertiary organic base such as pyridine.
