Abstract
1,110,268. Testing cigarettes. HAUNIWERKE KÍRBER & CO. KOMM.-GES. 17 May, 1966 [15 June, 1965], No. 21891/66. Heading A2C. In testing the presence, absence, or filling of a component of an axially aligned unwrapped cigarette-filter group 1 travelling transversely to its axis, the test is effected immediately prior to wrapping. Double length filters F are assembled at station U1 between pairs of cigarette lengths Z in the grooves of a drum 4. The assembled groups run over a pair of guides 12 to a station U2 where a connector sheet 16 is applied from a drum 18, the group being wrapped between a drum 80 and a rolling surface 86 immediately after transfer from the drum 4. The guides 12 have slots for feelers 30. The feelers may be spring-biased or weighted to press against a component to be tested. Should the component be faulty or absent, the feeler moves in a direction to activate the switch 38 or a photo-electric device, Fig. 3 (not shown), so as to cause the subsequent rejection of the group. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the testing is effected at the station U3 after the connecter sheet 16 has been applied, but before wrapping takes place.
